Very popular, mystical DM youth beer drinking location in the eighties

I meant to make this note just to the south. :(
  • Principal Park, a (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
Has been home of Iowa state high school baseball tournament since 2005. There was an earlier Sec Taylor Stadium here that was replaced in 1992. Very nice stadium with great views of DM, but unfortunately has flooded a few times. They have continually upgraded the stadium. Many of the Chicago Cub players have done injury rehab stints here.
  • Mercy Capitol, a (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
Also known for a short time as Metropolitan Hospital. Apparently to be closed as a hospital in the next year and turned into a state office building. Another loss to the suburbs.
  • Gazali's Greek Restaurant, gg (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
The Garlic Chicken Pita is the best sandwich anywhere!
  • Caribou Coffee, ft (guest) wrote 18 years ago:

  • Old Main, hmm (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
This is the coolest building on campus and only the best people are allowed to work within its walls.
  • White's Only Tavern, truthman (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
Yeah, the same people who trendy, generic, boring bars in the burbs own this place. If that's a selling point for you, then by all means, stop by. Would help if you're white and upper middle class, too.
  • Sherman Hill Neighborhood, truthman (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
Yes, lots of yuppies and snobs who like to pretend they live in an upscale area. reality is that it's got lots of halfway houses, rehab centers and a higher crime rate than the rest of the city. Some pretty houses though.

City life in Des Moines? Come on, DM is a hick town compared to the big cities.
  • Foot bridge, vilstef (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
It was closed for about 20 years before the Council did the Riverwalk project and made it a foot bridge.
  • EMC Insurance Building, vilstef (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
On the Bob and Tom show, they once referred to the address of this building as EMC Square. It isn't, but it's a great line. The company should get the address changed.
  • Tallest monument in Woodland Cemetery, vilstef (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
The monument is a shade to the southeast of the box. This level of detail wasn't available when I first marked it.

  • Tacos Andreas, Ed (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
They've changed ownership. Still a taco restaurant, but Mariana's has moved down 10 blocks east on university.

This got converted into a Jethro's BBQ and Sports Bar.
  • White's Only Tavern, thisbar (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
This bar was currently bought out and is now owned by the same people that own a lot of West Des Moines and Downtown bars. Very fun place to go regardless if student or not.

Hot sausage sandwich is the best you will find in town
