I live less than a half-mile from the stadium. Great fireworks every Friday night! Principal Financial Group owns most of the office space in downtown Des Moines, which is adjacent to the stadium (Des Moines is the Insurance/Financial capitol of the world, ya know!). They purchased the stadium name a few years back to increase their already household name in central Iowa. I had a hard time swallowing this, as it was announced around the same time that the new state-of-the-art downtown entertainment arena was to be called the "Wells Fargo Arena". I fear we have precious few years before the world-famous Iowa State Fairgrounds is renamed Geiko or ING fairgrounds. I am a die-hard capitalist, but I believe commercialism should be kept on a leash by property owners and city officials.
